It’s my birthday soon, naturally I will be a year older but not much wiser. I find myself getting very grumpy as I get older and increasingly annoyed by two things, bad manners and ignorance. By bad manners I don’t mean I expect everyone to prance about going “Prithee Sire” and “Greetings Fair Lady” but I do expect courtesy in shops and people to stand up for little old ladies and men on buses. Just simple things like “Please” and “Thank you” would be a start. Is it that much to ask? I think not. Ignorance, of course, remains rife. People tend to know more about soap stars then politicians, more about X-Factor than world events, more about celebrities than other cultures. Why is that? Perhaps I am just a grumpy old fart! OK it’s a bit of a generalisation but I know what I mean.
